A Meme Without a Theme...Random Dozen {neuf}

{Once again, no introductions really needed here.}

1. Candy corn: Your thoughts?

Love it. It's just one of those childhood memories that I can't give up.

2. Briefly, what was the first conversation you ever had with your spouse? (or best friend, if you're not married.) (Or someone significant, like your librarian.)

He asked me what kind of music do I listen to, and I answered, "Contemporary Christian music mainly." To which he replied, "Oh." I'm not sure he really knew what to think of me at that point. But he got pretty used to the idea quick enough!

3. Could you ever become a vegetarian?

Ummmm...I eat meat, but not a lot of it. And I really love sides more than anything else on my plate, so it sounds like I probably could be a vegetarian if I needed to. But even though I'm not an adamantly carnivorous individual, I don't think I could go FOR.EV.ER without eating meat just for fun. Capiche?

4. Have you ever dressed up your pet in a costume?

When I was a kid, I used to dress my cat (who always seemed afraid of me for some reason) in my doll's clothes.

5. Name something about childhood that you miss (like Clark Bars, Teaberry Gum, Malibu Barbie, cracking fake eggs on people's heads with your fist and "It's the Great Pumpkin" airing only once a year).

Picking tangerines by the shirtful from our neighborhood's "ancient man's" yard and eating them on the back of my best friend's dad's tailgate. We thought we were "getting away with it," but later found out he knew and just let us. Or knew he couldn't catch us running, one of the two. Knowing that he knew relieved the guilt I felt when I was older, so now I can enjoy the memory so much more.

6. Have you ever won a trophy? If not, what do you deserve a trophy for?

I once won a trophy for a hula-hoop contest! {sigh...those were the days...}

7. When do you think is the appropriate time to begin playing Christmas music each year?

July.

I'm serious! We always have "Christmas in July" at our house...complete with smoked turkey breast, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, homemade rolls and pecan pie. Oh, and we bring a quart of egg nog (sans the rum) out of the freezer for the occasion too.

8. What's your favorite board game?

Right now I would have to say it's Blokus. It's a strategy game, a lot of fun, and I win a lot. 'Nuff said.

9. How do you feel about surprises (receiving, not giving)?

I LOOOOOOVE surprises!!

10. Is it easy for you to say, "I'm sorry?"

Generally, it is. Especially once I've been gently enlightened to the error of my ways.

11. What is your favorite candle scent?

Oooo, this is a tough one. I'll have to say any kind of baking smell candle in the fall and winter, and clean linen scent in the summer. Sorry, I couldn't narrow it down any more than that!

12. October is traditionally "open house" time in public schools. If you had a literal open house in your home (like a reception) what light snacks would you serve visitors and what would you show them (as in art projects, graded papers) that would uniquely represent you?

Well, let's see. For light snacks, I'd have Meatballs in BBQ sauce, Stuffed Mushrooms Florentine, and miniature butter biscuits with jalapeno jelly. Then at the dessert table would be Fresh Apple Cake, Pumpkin Dip with ginger cookies, and Espresso Delights cookies.

As far as displays, I would have to say the food table would be my presentation! JUST kidding. I could show my monumental stack of books I have started but not finished, my folded up fabric that at some point might become my Christmas gifts, and for the Grand Finale, I would feature........untold stacks of folded ready-to-pack summer clothes...AND...my boys' graded papers! That's about the one thing I've actually accomplished lately.

I hope you enjoyed this week's version of Random Dozen! Now go to Linda's 2nd Cup of Coffee to read others' responses to the same questions.

We both make yummy stuffed mushrooms and like linen candles, but I hate candy corn.

Hey, did Greg at the General Store get in touch with you? He asked me to let you know that he is having a hard time getting onto your blog, that for some reason it is blocked from his server or something. He didn't have your email, and I don't anymore either, so know he is thinking of you, if he isn't visiting.

Ooooooo... I'm coming to YOUR open house! You really know how to host!
I also love the idea of Christmas and Thanksgiving in the summer. At camp one year we were instructed to bring a Christmas present and we celebrated Christmas in July.
I may have to do that again!
Blessings!

Waaaay back when the mail was slow and went mostly by ship, we had Christmas in August at church every year to bring gifts to send to the missionaries.

You are the first one I've read that actually likes candy corn! LOL

Blokus was one of my answers too! I thought I was REALLY good because I DO win a lot ... at home. But when I went on line to play I found I'm not as good as I THINK I am! LOL!

I LOVED your childhood memory. We used to have an apple tree across the street from us that we sat in and ate apples - GALORE - about 12 of us... and carved our names in the tree a dozen times each at least! And then Ol' Aunt Bessie (she was nobody's aunt) had a cherry tree in her back yard, and we would climb the stone wall and jump to catch a limb - scamper up into that tree and eat cherries for hours! WE thought we were gettin' away with something too -- but it turned out WE were doing the favor! Neither old owner of those trees could get out there and pick that fruit - and it would just rot off the tree if it weren't for us kids -- it would make a HORRIBLE mess in the yard! Sooooo... you were probably HELPING as much!

1. You really are not alone out there. I love candy corn too. I have made myself sick eating too much in one sitting.

4. WAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

7. Love your July celebration. Jesus should be celebrated every chance we get.

8. Sounds like fun. I like strategic games too.

10. Me too. That gentle enlightenment could be the key factor.

Hey, I don't have your email addy. Would you contact me please? edie7777(at)tx(dot)rr(dot)com.

Thanks!

I've never heard of that game before, but it sounds like a fun game.

The miniature butter biscuits sound very yummy, so I hope you post the recipe sometime!

So cute! And since we're going down memory lane, I will never forget one day after gym class, we were in the locker room and you were telling me how you like my name because I have a good song with my name in it and you don't. I asked you what about the Beatles song and proceeded to sing you my non-French version which included the line, "Some play piano, some, play piano, some..." LOL! I will never forget the speechless look on you face!

And to answer your questions - Yes, still in Texas (San Antone) and found a few pumpkin patches here! Yes, flu is bad here - I got my shot today! Yay! Oh, and 758 pics are how many we have since day one of Emma World. I numbered them all to make it easier for me to track since I knew we'd be taking A LOT for the rest of our lives..... (And watch Top Gear, although I agree, Top Gun is pretty darn good)

Hi Chel! Thanks for your encouraging comment on my blog, and thanks for visiting! I'm certainly not hilarious all the time (doesn't everyone have PMS?), but I'll do my best to live up to it!
